For starters, the Crossroads Mall and Crossroads Shopping Center of San Antonio are located within a mile to the north (where the interstates converge). If you like the thrill of the bargain hunt, the Crossroads area is the place for you. Here, you’ll find big name discount stores like Stein Mart and Burlington Coat Factory, as well as a Hobby Lobby and Super Target. Several dining and entertainment options, including a Dave & Buster’s, are also situated in the Crossroads area, within minutes of Maverick.
If you prefer outdoor recreation, there are a few smaller parks closer to home, including the Joe Ward Park, Balcones Heights City Park, and Lees Creek Park. The former hosts the Joe Ward Community Center. A few miles further north, on the opposite side of I-410, is the Oak Hills Country Club. This exclusive private golf club offers many amenities; it has a rich history as one of the oldest clubs of its kind in the nation and the site of the first two Texas Opens.
The Maverick area is also synonymous with easy access to premier health care options. The Texan Heart Hospital is within a mile to the north, near the Crossroads. A half-dozen or so additional medical facilities can be found near the golf club, along Medical Drive. Among these are Methodist Hospital, Southwest Texas Medical Center, St. Luke’s Baptist Hospital, and the Methodist Specialty Transplant Hospital.
