Midland was founded in the 1880s as a stopping point between El Paso and Fort Worth. The city subsequently experienced oil booms in the 1920s and 1970s. Public transportation is available in the form of buses managed by the Midland-Odessa Urban Transit (EZ Rider). Route 5 (red) runs near Trinity Meadows; residents may have to walk a few blocks to the nearest stop.

Health care providers in Midland include West Texas Medical Center, Memorial Hospital & Medical Center, and Midland Health and Senior Services.

Midland is also the hometown of former President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush.
