Residents of Northwood are within a few blocks of the tennis courts at Trinity Park and the shops and restaurants at Midland Park Mall. One of the more upscale neighborhoods, development in Northwood didn’t start until after 1970 with the majority of homes built before 1995. It is an eclectic mix of single-family homes, low and high-rise apartment buildings and duplexes. Northwood has easy access to the Texas 250 Loop Frontage Road via North Midland Drive.

Fairmont Park Church of Christ is two blocks from Northwood off North Midland Drive. Parker Elementary School on Merrill Court is right in the neighborhood. The private Trinity School of Midland on West Wadley Avenue is one block from Trinity Park, east of Northwood. Midland College is two miles to the east off of West Wadley Avenue. Just east of the college is the Midland International Airpark and commercial center. Across from Midland College and the airport are the Tumbleweeds Park and the Midland Community Theatre, offering dramatic and musical productions.

Heading farther east on West Wadley Avenue leads to Hogan Park and the Ranchland Hills Golf Club just south of the park. Hogan Park is dog friendly, with five fenced acres and an agility course open to the public. Another golfing option is the Midland Country Club just north of Hogan Park and the Christensen ballpark.

Shops at Midland Park Mall include JC Penneys, Sears, and Ross Dress for Less. Dine in the food court at the Great American Steak Sandwich or Jumberito, or visit Fuddruckers for a casual, sit-down meal. Other dining and shopping options are along the Texas 250 Loop, West Wadley Avenue and North Midland Drive.
