Del Norte Heights is centrally located on Midland’s north end. Two blocks north are Tumbleweed and Windlands Park and the Midland Community Theatre next door. Across the street, the road leads to Midland College and the Midland International Airpark. One block east of the neighborhood are Northland Shopping Center and another open green space, Sidwell Park.
This Texas neighborhood is a mixture of single-family homes, duplexes, row houses, and apartments. Most homes were built between 1940 and 1960, but there has been ongoing building and renovation.
A number of private schools are near Del Norte Heights. These include the Hillander School on West Wadley Avenue, Kelview Kindergarten Preschool & Day Care, and Hillcrest School on North A Street. The closest public school is Bowie Elementary on Elk Avenue, eight blocks south of Del Norte Heights. Hope Lutheran Church on West Scharbauer Drive and the Living Way Church on North Pecos Street are the closest houses of worship.
West Wadley Avenue is one of the main thoroughfares in north Midland and less than a half mile from Del Norte Heights. This is the road that has an assortment of restaurants and shops and easy access to Hogan’s Park and its five-acre dog play area. The dog park has a separate fenced-in area for small dogs and an agility course open to the public.
The closest restaurants are Michael’s Charcoal Grill North, a three-block walk north, and Gerardos Casita, three blocks east. One block east of Michael’s on West Wadley are Gatti’s Pizza, Texas Burger, the Cattle Baron Steak & Seafood Restaurant, and Sidekicks and Legends. E-Z Rider transit offers frequent service along North A Street, North Big Spring Street, and West Wadley Avenue.
