While a handful of small neighborhood parks are easily within walking distance of Barberdale, the pride and joy of Midland’s parks system – Hogan Park – outshines them all. Located just northeast of the community, bounded by East Wadley Avenue, North Fairgrounds Road, and Highway 250, this large park offers several amenities. Among these are a 36-hole public golf course, off-leash dog park, and several athletic fields. Also on park grounds is the Christensen Stadium, former home of the Midland Rockhounds pro baseball team, who now play across town at the First American Bank Ballpark. The stadium is now utilized by nearby Midland College and local high school teams.
More affluent residents of Barberdale may belong to the Ranchland Hills Country Club, situated immediately south of Hogan Park and within easy walking distance of this community. This semi-private golf club is known for its scenic 18-hole course, which is one of the oldest in the entire region.
