Kashmere Gardens is framed by railroad tracks and Liberty Road to the south, Homestead Road to the east, and Eastex Freeway to the west. It is south of the 610 Loop. Kashmere Gardens is three miles northeast of downtown Houston, Texas in the area known as the Fifth Ward. As a largely industrial area, Kashmere Gardens is sparsely populated with spacious lots and older homes. Kashmere Gardens is home to a public library and two large parks.
Students in Kashmere Gardens are part of the Houston ISD and attend Kashmere High School. The Conrad O. Johnson School of Fine Arts magnet school is contained in the high school. It is named for the teacher and musician who formed the Kashmere Stage Band, a highly-acclaimed jazz and funk band that released several albums in the 60s and 70s.
