East Houston is located between Beaumont Highway on the southeast, and the railroad tracks located near the intersection of Little York Road and East Houston Dyersdale Road on the northwest. It includes an area of approximately 12.45 square miles, and has a population of about 19,700 people.
The neighborhood of East Houston is primarily residential, with some industrial areas. Housing here offers a wide range of choices. Shopping is located within East Houston, with the Eastpark Shopping Center located at the corner of Tidwell Road and Mesa Drive. Several parks can also be found here, as well as a few lakes and a river for those who enjoy the outdoors. School children in all grades are able to attend school within East Houston.
The Houston Railroad Museum of Gulf Coast is located here, on Mesa Drive. Along with its displays of railroad artifacts, locomotives, and cars, this museum also holds events; the main two annual events are the Music Festival and Train Fair, and the Big Texas Train Show.
For those who enjoy a good game of golf, the Brock Park Golf Course is located on John Ralston Road, at the eastern boundary of East Houston. This course is managed and maintained by Houston’s Department of Parks and Recreation. From here, it is about a 20 minute drive to downtown Houston.
At the far northeast corner of this neighborhood is Jones-Cowart Stadium. Here, seating for 12,000 fans gives high school sports a big audience.
