An historic city in Hood County, Granbury is a small Texas town located within a half-hour of Fort Worth and an hour from Dallas. Home of the historic Granbury Opera House, Granbury is also known for its legends, many claiming that Jesse James and John Wilkes Booth both lived in Granbury after their supposed deaths. More than stories of those from the past, Granbury provides residents with proximity to beautiful Lake Granbury, five city parks, and several museums.

Opportunities exist with top employers like Lake Granbury Medical Center, Granbury Independent School District, and the City of Granbury. Agriculture plays a large part in Granbury’s economy, but retail employers are also significant, with Home Depot employing over 250 people and Walmart Supercenter serving as another major employer. Granbury’s proximity to the Metroplex – the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington Metropolitan Area – also provides jobs for many of its residents as they can enjoy a convenient commute to work.

For recreation, you’ll love visiting the city’s beach area along the shores of Lake Granbury. At the numerous parks within the city, you can enjoy boating, swimming, canoeing, camping, and picnicking. The Granbury Opera House, originally built in 1886, offers Broadway productions, and you can see the final resting places of Jesse James at the Granbury State Historical Cemetery.

Residents of Granbury support the legend that James came to live in Granbury after his staged death, an act which was concocted so that law enforcement would stop trying to track James down. John Wilkes Booth, the assassin of President Abraham Lincoln, also is believed to have lived in Granbury. Some historians support the theory that Booth fled to Granbury and lived under the name John St. Helen after he assassinated Lincoln. Whether you give stock to the legends or not, you can’t help but find the town of Granbury interesting – and a wonderful place to rent your next apartment!
