Outer Far North Neighborhood in Georgetown, TX

Outer Far North Neighborhood

Roughly 25 miles north of Austin, Texas, you’ll find one of America’s favorite suburbs: Georgetown. Once named one of the country’s best places to live, Georgetown dates back to 1848 and contains a wealth of Victorian architecture. More than 180 homes are on the National Register of Historic Places. Georgetown’s Outer Far North section is located between I-35 and Highway 130, north of the San Gabriel River. Neighborhoods to consider in Outer Far North include Gabriels Overlook, Greenridge, Quail Valley, Raintree, and River Ridge.

The old-fashioned Wolf Ranch Shopping Center is also along Interstate 35 and has big-name brands such as Target and Office Depot. The mall is built like an old-time main street, with sidewalk cafes and benches parked in front of businesses and under shade trees.

For active residents of this Texas neighborhood, there are opportunities for walking, hiking, and biking throughout the area. Booty’s Road Park is located near Georgetown and features a pavilion that can accommodate most activities and host up to 130 people. It also features easy access to the Lake Georgetown trail and the City of Georgetown trail. San Gabriel Park is one of the most popular parks in the area. It features a wooded one-mile hiking and biking trail that follows the northern fork of the San Gabriel River. For more robust adventurers, a three-mile trail follows the southern fork of the river. San Gabriel Park has four softball fields, a number of basketball fields, a rodeo arena, a show barn, a skate park, a playground, a recreation center, six soccer fields, two football fields, a tennis court, a flower garden, and additional features.

The Georgetown Skate Park is located on East Morrow Street, behind the Georgetown Community Center. It gives skaters an outlet for their sport, with open access to ramps, rails, half pipes, quarter pipes, and other challenges. Skaters under the age of 10 require an adult to supervise them, and all skaters are advised to provide their own helmets, pads, and wrist guards for safety.

A dog park full of amenities for beloved pets, including drinking fountains for dogs and their people, trash cans, trails, and agility courses is located on Holley Street, near the McMaster Complex. The Bark Park allows dogs to socialize and exercise in areas specific to their size, with cordoned areas for small dogs under 30 pounds, and large dogs to play.

The Georgetown Parks and Recreation Department cares for more than nine miles of trails throughout the area that span both forks of the San Gabriel River. While some of the paths are traditional hiking paths, there are many granite and concrete paths available, as well as two lighted stretches of paths.
