East End Historic District Neighborhood

East End Historic District is a neighborhood in the heart of Galveston, Texas. Home to cultural spots and entertainment options, East End Historic District is the perfect place for tourists to go for a sense of the city. Within walking or biking distance of virtually every corner of the island, it is easy to get to and from the popular areas of the city.

Must-visit eateries include Mosquito Cafe and Sunflower Bakery, both local favorites for their dessert selections. Luigi’s Ristorante Italiano has classic Italian dishes, while Saltwater Grill offers signature seafood dishes. The Strand, Galveston’s popular shopping district sits just to the north of the East End HIstoric District. Full of antique stores, boutiques, bars, and music venues, The Strand is home to Galveston’s vibrant culture and nightlife.

East End Historic District encompasses about 50 city blocks in the center of Galveston. Its southern border is marked by Broadway, also known as Avenue J. Parallel to it is Mechanic Street, also called Avenue C, which is the neighborhood’s northern border. To the west, the area ends at 19th Street and extends to 10th Street.

There are a few schools near East End Historic District; most notably, the University of Texas Medical Branch, known as UTMB. Branches of the Galveston Independent School District include Rosenberg Elementary School and Austin Middle School. Several private schools also sit within the district’s boundaries, like Heritage Christian Academy and Odyssey Academy Incorporated.

For outdoor activities, Adoue Park, in the center of the neighborhood, offers places for picnics, walking and jogging, or a playscape for children. Galveston’s beach is only a few blocks away with space for swimming and suntanning.
