Conroe, Texas is named for Isaac Conroe, a lumberman who established a mill along Stewart’s Creek in 1881. The town was originally named “Conroe’s Switch” and was later shortened to Conroe.

When they want to cool off and have some fun, Conroe residents head to nearby Lake Conroe, a large lake covering 21 miles. The lake provides all types of outdoor recreation, from golfing, picnicking, and fishing to boating, jet skiing, and swimming.

The Sam Houston National Forest is just seven miles from Conroe. Containing over 163,000 acres, this large park features the 128-mile Lone Star Hiking Trail. The Cagle Recreation Area sits on the shores of Lake Conroe and offers a campground, a boat ramp with ample parking, equestrian and mountain bike trails, and 85 miles of OHV trails.

Located about 35 miles north of Houston, Conroe is an affluent suburban community with several parks, including the popular Candy Cane Park. This 24-acre park is home to the Heritage Museum of Montgomery County, a recreation center, and an aquatic center. It also has an ADA-compliant playground, six tennis courts, and picnic areas. La Torretta Lake Resort & Spa offers fine dining, a resort-style swimming pool, a lazy river, and golf.

Two major highways — Loop 336 and 105 — can be accessed from I-45, making commuting into Houston easy. This popular rural location attracts many new residents every year. Come enjoy the scenery in beautiful Conroe!
