Highland Park in Columbia is a beautiful family-oriented neighborhood that has grassy medians infused with decorative trees. Single-story brick houses are established and quaint in their lovely corners. Lawns are diverse but well-manicured with trimmed bushes; neat driveways; and narrow, edged sidewalks.

This community is sought after for beauty, working-class comfort, and the close-knit friendliness of neighbors. Natural tall pines stand between dwellings and the deeper cover of hardwoods. This community has shaded spots that provide some seclusion and privacy.

Among places of worship that serve the residents of the Highland Park neighborhood are the Gill Creek Baptist Church, Muhammad Mosque, the Church of Nazarene, and the Tree of Life Congregation Congregation, which is synagogue.

A number of preschools and other public and private educational institutions serve the Highland Park community. Among those convenient to neighborhood residents are Columbia College, the Lutheran Theological Seminary, the W. L. Bonner Bible College, and Benedict College.

The historic Columbia House Museum, the State House, and the Governor’s Mansion are all a short drive into the surrounding region. The Elmwood Park Historic District, the Congaree River, and several parks make Highland Park appealing. The River Walk has natural trails, greenways, small businesses, and the picturesque outdoors.

Staples, Rite-Aid, and CVS are retailers located near the Highland Park community. The Food Lion, Kroger, and Bi-Lo’s are local groceries available to neighborhood residents. Exxon and BP gas stations are at local junctions. For more varied needs, the Columbia Mall Shopping Center is in this area.

The Highland Park neighborhood is centrally located between Farrow Road/555 and highway 277.
