Fredericksburg is an amazing little city that is located about 60 miles north of San Antonio and roughly 65 miles west of Austin in Texas Hill Country. German settlers came to the area in 1860, and the city still celebrates its German heritage. A unique spin on the German language, called “Texas German,” developed here, although the dialect is nearly extinct.
The town is beautiful, but the landscape is simply stunning. The rolling hills, gorgeous wildflowers, lush landscape, and pristine streams provide a vast playground for those who rent an apartment in Fredericksburg. Be amazed by the Bat Cave at Old Tunnel State Park, an abandoned railroad tunnel. The upper viewing deck is a great place to see the millions of Mexican free-tailed bats exit the tunnel each evening.
Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park, a vast 340-acre park, offers a nature trail, camping, a pool, playgrounds, tennis courts, and more. The nearby Lyndon B. Johnson State Park and Historic Site is ideal for both nature enthusiasts and history buffs.
Enchanted Rock is a unique rock-climbing location. This Texas Historic Landmark is a giant pink granite rock formation, located 15 miles north of the city. It is the largest formation of its type in the nation. Enchanted Rock State Natural Area provides activities such as rock climbing, hiking, backpack camping, and caving.
With its fantastic shopping, great dining, wineries, coffee houses, bakeries, museums, theaters, and more, Fredericksburg is a fun-filled, adventure-packed, friendly city to call home.
