Cedar Park, one of the fastest growing cities in Central Texas, is located about 15 miles north of Austin. In 1990, Cedar Park had a population of just over 5,000. Now, 20 years later, Cedar Park has exploded to almost 43,000. With so many wonderful things to do, it’s easy to see why Family Circle magazine named Cedar Park in its Top 10 places to raise a family.
One of the city’s largest undertakings was the recent construction of the Cedar Park Center, which opened in the fall of 2009. Home to the Texas Stars Hockey, the center also features concerts, circuses, ice shows, conferences, and more.
If you like water in a less-frozen state, check out Brushy Creek Lake Park. Besides a 38-acre lake made for fishing, canoeing, and kayaking (no motorized boats allowed), you can enjoy the hike and bike trail, the water playscape, the playground, the exercise area, or the picnic tables and grills.
Cedar Park is also home to the Austin Steam Train, which offers many “train” events such as the Hill Country Flyer, the North Pole Flyer, and the Wild West Murder Mystery.
The new Schlitterbahn, coming to Cedar Park in 2012, is slated to be twice the size of the New Braunfels Schlitterbahn. This huge project will offer much more that a water park. There will be a river walk, a hotel, a convention center, and lots of retail space. Speaking of retail, Cedar Park has many great places to shop. There’s Lakeline Mall, Lakeline Plaza, and the new 1890 Ranch.
Cedar Park has it all…with more on the way! Between hockey, shopping, lakes, parks, Movies in the Park, train rides, cook-offs, summer camps, business expos, and so much more, it’s easy to see why Cedar Park is the perfect place to raise a family.
