Where can you find one of the world’s largest Laundromats, a shopping center so popular it has appeared in four movies, and a hip and trendy arts community? That would be Berwyn, Illinois, a unique city located about 10 miles west of downtown Chicago.
Berwyn broke off of Cicero Township to form its own city in 1908. It is a beautiful Chicago suburb, featuring the country’s largest collection of Chicago-style bungalows. And while many residents of Berwyn commute to Chicago, there are several area employers, as well. Living in Berwyn, you’ll enjoy a growing arts community and some unique features – including a 13,500-square-foot Laundromat complete with a children’s play area, a bird sanctuary, and big-screen TVs.
When you’ve chosen a Berwyn apartment to rent, be sure to check out Cermak Plaza Shopping Center. Built during the 1950s, it was once the site of a unique sculpture called the Spindle, a giant spike that impaled nine gutted automobiles. The sculpture was demolished in 2008, but not before making an appearance in the movie, Wayne’s World. Other movies that feature Cermak Plaza are Adventures in Babysitting, A League of Their Own, and Wanted.
