Aurora, CO Apartments for Rent

Located just 15 miles east of Downtown Denver, Aurora isn’t your average suburb – this is a thriving city in its own right. If you are considering an Aurora apartment, perhaps you want to be close to Denver while still enjoying a suburban atmosphere. And while you’ll find that in Aurora, be aware that this growing city is more than half the size of Denver.

Aurora started out in the late 1880s as a small town named Fletcher, named for town founder Donald Fletcher. After the Silver Crash of 1893, Donald Fletcher took off, abandoning the struggling town. In 1907, residents decided to rename their town Aurora.

In the early 1900s, the military established itself in Aurora. Lowry Air Force Base, which opened in 1938, closed in 1994 and was converted into recreational and business plazas. Buckley Air Force Base, which was established in 1942, is an Air Force Space Command Base with over 92,000 active duty, Reserved, retired, and National Guard personnel. The 460th Space Wing is the host unit. The base is one of the largest employers in Aurora.

With Denver just a few minutes away, you’ll be able to visit top attractions such as the Denver Zoo or the Museum of Nature and Science or attend classes at the University of Colorado-Denver.

The Rocky Mountains not only provide stunning views, they also provide a wealth of outdoor activities that you’ll enjoy when you move to your new Aurora apartment. There’s hiking, camping, river rafting, canoeing, fly-fishing, and mountain biking to enjoy. In Aurora, you’ll find 6,000 acres of natural, protected areas and over 100 parks. Aurora also features six municipal golf courses (all of which are award-winning), a nature center, hiking trails, and two reservoirs.

The Rocky Mountain Arsenal, a National Wildlife Refuge, is just north of Aurora. This 15,000-acre preserve was created (in part) to protect the bald eagle population. The park also features a driving tour and 10 miles of hiking trails. In addition to the bald eagles, the refuge is home to bison, coyotes, deer, and burrowing owls.

Living in your new Aurora apartment will bring about a wealth of new opportunities. From the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, a world-class health center with state-of-the-art facilities, to fantastic shops and restaurants, Aurora is a true live-work-play community.
