Secane is a small community located about nine miles southwest of downtown Philadelphia. The University of Pennsylvania is about six miles away from Secane.

In 1871, a train stop was built in the area and was named “Spring Hill” after the area’s underground springs; the community was later renamed to Secane. Although primarily a bedroom community, there are plenty of shops and restaurants in the area. For those who want to rent in Secane and commute to Philadelphia, the SEPTA Regional Rail’s Media/Elwyn Line still has a stop in Secane, and the ticket office is the original stone building built in 1880.

The Philadelphia International Airport is less than eight miles south of Secane, making travel from your Secane apartment convenient and easy. The John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge, which is located near the airport, is home to over 300 species of birds. Other wildlife living in the refuge includes deer, fox, muskrat, turtles, fish, and frogs. Recreational opportunities include hiking, photography and wildlife observation.
