In the late 1600s, a group of Quakers arrived in Philadelphia. They named their town Plymouth after their hometown in Devonshire, England. They worshipped at the Plymouth Friends Meetinghouse, which was built in 1708. The area around this house, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is called Plymouth Meeting.
