The East Carnegie neighborhood of Pittsburgh is located southwest of the city along Chartiers Creek, near the neighborhood of Oakwood. Pittsburgh, known as the Most Livable City, is a vibrant cultural and educational center with several universities and teaching hospitals. It is also the home of the Pittsburgh Steelers football team. While East Carnegie is primarily a residential area, the Union Electric Steel Corporation and several small businesses are in the community, as are several restaurants. Residents can commute to the city or to the airport using the Port Authority Transit’s West Busway.
A number of shopping plazas are nearby, among them the Crafton-Ingram Shopping Center, Parkway Center and Carnegie Malls, and the Robinson Town Center. East Carnegie Park is in the center of the community and has basketball courts, baseball and tennis courts, a swing set, and a jungle gym.
Higher education opportunities for residents include Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh campuses, both of which are located near Schenley Park.
Several excellent golf courses are within minutes of the East Carnegie neighborhood. The Chartiers Country Club and the Club at Nevillewood are both private 18-hole courses with practice areas. The Schenley Park Golf Course is an 18-hole public course.
East Carnegie residents have access to Schenley Park in nearby Oakland, the home of Carnegie Museum and Library; Phillips Conservatory and Botanical Gardens; and Panther Hollow Lake. In addition, visitors will find an ice skating rink and a swimming pool. Activities are planned throughout the year, including ice skating events and concerts on Flagstaff Hill in the summer.
