A community formed and named by William Penn in 1684, Newtown reflects its long history with historical architecture and a rural feel, despite being part of the Philadelphia metro area. Newton served as the county seat for Bucks County for 88 years, from 1726 to 1813, when it was replaced by Doylestown. Newtown has a historic downtown area, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The area features several boutiques, restaurants, taverns, and other businesses. The historic clock tower is a major downtown landmark.

When looking for apartments for rent in Newtown, be sure to look in the area around the Newtown Historic District. This amazing district contains 293 historic buildings, dating from the late 17th century. The Half-Moon Inn, built in 1733, is also located in the district (although it is listed as a National Historic Site by itself). This historic inn and tavern is now a local history museum. The Newtown Friends Meetinghouse and Cemetery, a historic Quaker meetinghouse, was built in 1817 and is still in use.
