The area round the town of Moore was first settled during the Oklahoma land run of 1889. The place was not named Moore then though; the railroad called it Verbeck. However, a railroad employee who lived in the area put his name on a hand-painted sign nailed to a freight car. Al Moore only wanted to be sure that he would get his mail regularly. He got his letters and got a town named after him. Westmoor came later, as a subdivision of homes built southwest of Moore in the 1980s and 1990s.

The zip code for the Westmoor neighborhood is 73170. Southwest 141st Street is the north boundary of the subdivision. South Santa Fe Avenue is the east boundary and Southwest 149th Street, which changes to Southwest 19th street, is the south boundary. The boundary streets on the west are Hudson Avenue, Sylena Way, and Harvey Avenue.

The single-family houses of Westmoor are traditionally styled and may have one or two stories. The houses are wood frame and some are faced with brick or stone. Many have Tudor or Italianate details. The streets are well maintained and most of the tidy yards have mature trees.

The Westmoor neighborhood is well located, with the metropolitan center of Oklahoma City to the north and the University of Oklahoma and Norman to the south. At the same time, the area retains a small-town feeling. There are youth sport leagues, homecoming parades and community Christmas celebrations in Moore, not to mention the local horseshoe pitching club.
