Las Vegas Apartments for Rent
Urban legend says that the name Las Vegas district came about because this Oklahoma City neighborhood has better soil than the heavy red clay of the surrounding city. Las Vegas means “the meadows” in Spanish, and the original area was said to be a garden spot.
The Las Vegas zip code is 73107. The neighborhood is bounded on the north by Northwest Twenty-Third Street, on the east by North Pennsylvania Avenue, on the south by Northwest Nineteenth Street, and on the west by North Youngs Boulevard.
Las Vegas district homes are one or two story, and are usually set behind moderate-sized lawns. Tudor Revival homes are common, along with many of Colonial Revival style. The neighborhood also holds charming examples of traditional and prairie style homes. All of the streets have mature trees.
The Las Vegas area is within easy walking distance of the pastoral campus of Oklahoma City University, founded in 1904. The Shepherd Mall, begun in 1963, which now hosts more government offices than retail outlets, is just to the north. Less than three miles away are the breathtaking Myriad Botanical Gardens, with a yearly Shakespeare festival and an amazing tropical conservatory, the Crystal Bridge.
The Las Vegas district of Oklahoma City is a revitalizing urban neighborhood. Filled with a charming variety of single-family homes built from the 1920s through the 1950s, its nostalgic ambiance makes it an old-fashioned jewel in an exciting metropolitan setting.
