Council Heights Neighborhood

The Council Heights area of Oklahoma City is located between West Britton Road and Northwest Expressway. This area of Oklahoma City is convenient to John Kilpatrick Turnpike.

For anyone who loves to shop, Council Heights offers 2 shopping centers where many stores can be found. Council Crossings Shopping Center and Warwick Crossings Shopping Center have Little Caesars Pizza, a hair salon, cleaners, carpet and tile store, Goodwill, Crest Foods and a fitness club.

The area is a good place for outdoor activities because there are a many parks in the area. Lake Hefner, Lakeshore Park, Stars and Stripes Park, and Martin Park can all be found within blocks of Council Heights. Those parks are filled with baseball fields, spray grounds, playgrounds, golf areas, and walking trails.

Oklahoma City is known for their cultural awareness. Near Council Heights in downtown Oklahoma City is the Gaylord-Pickens Oklahoma Heritage Museum. This is a high-tech museum which focuses on Oklahomans who shaped the history of the state like Reba McEntire, Wiley Post and Mat Hoffman.

Another outdoorsy location near Council Heights is Stinchcomb Wildlife Preserve. The marshland is adjoined by a heavily wooded swamp along the North Canadian River. About two miles of this area has been designated as a wildlife refuge. It is available for hikers and at times by permit for entry by cars along paralleling dirt roads. The refuge lies just north of Lake Overholser, north of US 66-US 270. It is said that the primary ways to benefit from the refuge are by foot, mountain bike and boat. Several trails suitable for hiking run through the refuge linking four small lakes to the river.
