James Demint founded Springfield in 1801. The city grew quickly, mainly due to the nation’s first improved highway, National Road, passed right through Springfield. Construction of the highway began in 1811 and arrived to Springfield in 1838. Much of the old highway is now part of US Route 40. Springfield is home to Wittenberg University, a private Lutheran university founded in 1845.

You’ll enjoy countless activities when you choose a Springfield apartment. From historic walking tours to the Springfield Museum of Art to Hartman Rock Garden, there’s always something happening in this dynamic city. Springfield is home to the historic Westcott House designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, the Heritage Center Museum, and South Fountain Historic District.

Step outside your new apartment in Springfield and you’ll discover over 1,400 acres of public park space, Buck Creek State Park, whitewater rafting on Buck Creek, and miles of biking and hiking trails. When you’re not shopping or dining downtown, visiting the museums, or enjoying the theaters, you can be hiking, swimming, fishing, golfing, camping, and boating.
