The borough of Indiana, Pennsylvania is more than just the county seat of Indiana County and the Christmas Tree Capital of the World. It is also home to Indiana University of Pennsylvania, making this quaint western Pennsylvania community a great little college town. Indiana is located about 50 miles northeast of Pittsburgh, giving those choosing to rent apartments in Indiana the best of both worlds: a rural community not far from the action of the big city.

Founded in 1875, Indiana University of Pennsylvania is a public university and the fifth largest in Pennsylvania’s university system. The school offers eight colleges with 140 undergraduate and 70 graduate degree programs. Schools include the College of Fine Arts, the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, and the Eberly College of Business and Information Technology.

IUP has a beautiful campus, located on 374 acres with 63 buildings, all red brick. Sutton Hall and the Breezedale Alumni Center, two of the university’s oldest structures, are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The IUP Crimson Hawks play in 19 varsity sports and are part of NCAA Division II. The football team plays at George P. Miller Stadium. The basketball team plays at Memorial Field House, while the baseball team calls Owen Dougherty Field home. School colors are crimson and slate.
