With a history dating to 1773, Dickinson College has developed a reputation for innovation. Originally established as a grammar school, Dickinson was chartered shortly after the Treaty of Paris was signed, making it the oldest college founded in the newly-recognized United States. Overall, it is the country’s 16th oldest college.

With a campus steeped in history, Dickinson College’s buildings are impressive. Old West, the original building, was built by Benjamin Latrobe in 1803, shortly after the original structure burned. Latrobe, who also worked on the US Capitol and many other historic buildings, is considered the father of American architecture. Old West is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a National Historic Landmark.
