Located in the Riverdale section of the Bronx, New York, Manhattan College is roughly 10 miles north of Midtown Manhattan. This private Catholic institution was established in 1853 and has undergraduate programs in the arts, education, health, science, engineering, and business. The school also has several graduate programs. Graduates of Manhattan College include author James Patterson, singer Glenn Hughes, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, and several archbishops.

The Manhattan College campus is located across from Van Cortlandt Park, the third-largest park in New York City at 1,146 acres. The park contains the city’s largest freshwater lake and is a popular destination for cross-country running with miles of cinder trails and hills. Manhattan College holds many races at the park. The college course is five miles long and is used annually for the ICAAAA championships. The Manhattan College Jaspers baseball team also plays at the park.

With Manhattan’s fantastic public transportation system, including the subway, finding an apartment near Manhattan College is easy. The Van Cortlandt Park subway station is located right outside the college, just steps away. New York City is considered one of the most pedestrian-friendly cities – so much so that a car isn’t necessary. Communities closest to the college include Riverdale, Fieldston, Kingsbridge, Marble Hill, and North Riverdale. Other nearby communities include the North Bronx, Yonkers, and Englewood, New Jersey.
