The wooded and tranquil 186-acre campus of Drew University is somewhat deceptive – students are wrapped in a natural setting that resembles a remote forest, but Drew University is located in Madison, a charming, busy borough just 16 miles west of Newark and only about three miles southeast of Morristown.

In 1867, Drew University began as Drew Theological Seminary, and the university is still home to the Drew Theological School, in addition to the College of Liberal Arts and the Caspersen School of Graduate Studies. The College offers bachelor’s degrees in 29 fields, while the Caspersen and Theological schools offer master’s degrees and PhDs.

As one of the safest cities in the nation, Madison is a popular choice among apartment renters, especially those looking for a place near Drew University. Downtown Madison features restaurants, shops, cafes, pubs, and other small businesses along wide, brick-lined sidewalks. But while it may appear to be a small town, Madison is just 25 miles from downtown Manhattan and is considered a New York City suburb.
