In the northwestern region of North Carolina is the city of Winston-Salem. Located in Forsyth County, Winston-Salem is home to several parks, four colleges, and a collection of scenic residential neighborhoods. Within Winston-Salem, in the 27107 zip code, is the neighborhood of Parkview. Nestled just north of Interstate 40, Parkview is on the southwest side of the city, bisected by Waughtown Street.
Parkview is a sprawling community that combines both residential and commercial areas, including the Parkview Shopping Center on its northeastern edge. Within the neighborhood are churches, various retail options and the Hall-Woodward Elementary School. Many of the residential streets have sidewalks and are convenient to main thoroughfares.
Less than two miles from Parkview is the Sprague Street Park. An 18-acre city park, it features a recreation center with computer lab, gymnasium, and meeting rooms. The park also has a playground and public swimming pool. The smaller Forest Park is also close to Parkview. A neighborhood park, Forest Park is located on the north side of the Forest Park Elementary School and features ball fields and tennis courts.
Parkview is only two miles south of the Reynolds Park Golf Course. An institution in Winston-Salem since 1940, the course features 18 holes of scenic, championship golf. The golf course is adjacent to Reynolds Park which has a recreation center, outdoor pool and tennis courts.
On the western side of Reynolds Park is the campus of Winston-Salem State University. Founded in 1892, the campus has an enrollment today of about 6,500. The college offers more than 40 undergraduate programs and 10 graduate programs of study.
Parkview is fewer than fifteen minutes from downtown Winston-Salem and the interactive Children’s Museum, located just south of Interstate 40.
