The quiet town of Vass is located 36 miles northwest of Fayetteville, just north of Fort Bragg. This mainly rural community formed in the late 1800s and was originally called Bynum. The name was changed in 1892 to honor Major William Worrell Vass, who played an integral part in the area’s railroad development.
Vass is in the heart of golf country, surrounded by numerous golf courses. In Vass, Woodlake Country Club’s 18-hole “Palmer Course” (designed by Arnold Palmer) and “Maples Course” (designed by Ellis Maples) are challenging public courses.
Drive 35 miles west and discover Uwharrie National Forest, a popular destination for camping, fishing, boating, and hunting. Uwharrie also features horse trails, hiking trails, and OHV trails.
Quaint and pastoral, the southern charm of Vass makes it attractive to new residents renting apartments near Fayetteville, Fort Bragg, and Pope AFB.
