It also has a community recreation center, which includes a gymnasium, dance studio, weight room, classrooms, and locker rooms. Sports and other programs are offered for all ages.

For a weekend getaway, Sandy Land Village residents can head to the nearby William B. Umstead State Park, located just to the west. Visitors enjoy horseback riding, hiking, and the beautiful sights and sounds of nature. They can have a picnic under a pine, fish in the creek, or pitch a tent on the acres and acres of natural greenspace there.
