On the far north side of Raleigh, North Carolina is the mid-sized community of Ravens Ridge. Raleigh, the state’s capital city, covers more than 85 square miles. The city of Durham sits about 21 miles northwest of Raleigh. Ravens Ridge is only fifteen miles east of the Raleigh-Durham International Airport.

Ravens Ridge lies east of Falls of Neuse Road, west of Capital Boulevard, and north of Durant Road. Adjacent to the neighborhood is hte Johnson Water Treatment Plant, the home of one of the largest rooftop solar arrays in the state. This array is the first in the southeast to uses solar panels to generate electricity for extended periods of the day.

Raleigh’s environmental awareness extends to several projects throughout the city. Downtown Raleigh, just fifteen miles south of Ravens Ridge, offers residents and visitors public transportation via the city’s R-Line, a hybrid electric bus. Other environmentally friendly options include the Raleigh Rickshaw or the popular Segway Tours through the downtown district.

Although Ravens Ridge is located on the far north side of the city, it is still less than two miles from one of Raleigh’s largest parks. The Durant Nature Park has twelve-acres of lake, five miles of trails and Lodge facilities for special events like weddings. Fishing is allowed from the lake’s banks and the park’s boathouse dock.

Thirteen miles north of Ravens Ridge in neighboring Wake Forest is the Falls Lake State Recreation Area. Located off Creedmoor Road, this state park has a 12,000-acre lake, 26,000-acres of parkland, and miles of trails. Boat launch ramps can be found at the Rolling View, Highway 50, and Beaverdam sites.
