Parkland is a suburban community located in North Carolina’s City of Raleigh, also acknowledged as the “City of Oaks” because of the many oak trees around the area. In the seat of Wake County, this city is named after the aristocrat, poet, spy, and explorer Sir Walter Raleigh.

Parkland uses the zip code 27603 and covers an area 0.387 square miles. Surrounded by many other residential communities, it is bound by the Old Stage Road on the east and south, then the Southern Acres Road on the north and west. Its other major thoroughfares include Vandora Springs Road, Fayetteville Highway, Simpkins Road, and Lake Wheeler Road.

Like many of the other neighborhoods around Raleigh, Parkland features a number of ponds and lakes scattered around the city. Most of these man-made bodies of water serve as modern attractions and community water sources. However, the city originally constructed them decades ago for flood control purposes. The large lakes around the community are typically beside expansive parks and historic buildings. For many years, they have become trademark elements seen all over the Raleigh area.

Parkland is only a few minutes away from Lake Wheeler and the Lake Wheeler Park on the west, and Lake Benson and the Edgewater Park on the southeast. From a few miles away northwest of the neighborhood, Parkland residents also have easy access to major educational institutions in Raleigh including the North Carolina State University, St. Augustine’s College and Meredith College. This area also houses Lake Raleigh, Lake Johnson Nature Park and other smaller parks like the Fred Fletcher Park and Lion’s Park, all of which are conveniently reached through the Knightdale Bypass.

With many natural tourist destinations surrounding the Parkland neighborhood, a number of hotels are located near the area as well. Some of the nearest ones include Comfort Inn, Super 8 and Clarion Hotel.
