A mixture of single-family homes, condominiums and apartments, Cardinal Hills is north of the Tom Bradshaw Freeway (I40) and west of downtown Raleigh. The Raleigh Beltline (I440) is central to the neighborhood. Neighborhood streets include Pineview Drive, Melbourne Road, Kaplan Drive, Wickham Road, Ashburton Road and Dunbar Road.
Public transportation is quick and easy via CAT, the Raleigh bus system. Residents can head downtown using the Method route (Yellow#12) or the TTA (Triangle Transit Authority.)
North Carolina State University is minutes from Cardinal Hills. Other nearby colleges include St. Augustine’s and Meredith College. Local parks are ideal for recreation. Next to the University is Pullen Park and nearby is both Kentwood and Powell Drive Parks.
Lake Johnson Nature Park can be found at 4601 Avent Ferry Road. Less than two miles from the Cardinal Hills area, this 150-acre land has fishing, boating, places for picnics and is part of the Greenway Trail System. About fifteen minutes away in neighboring Cary is the Hemlock Bluff State Natural Area, another choice park for hiking and other outdoor adventures.
The J.C. Raulston Arboretum is about two miles north of Cardinal Hills. With plant collections from more than 50 countries, the Arboretum is a research and teaching garden for the Department of Horticulture at NC State University but is open to the public.
