Arrowwood Hills is a small neighborhood located in the south western portion of Raleigh, North Carolina. It is located within Wake County. The neighborhood is roughly bordered on the west by Old South Road. To the north is the Penny Woods neighborhood and the eastern border is just beyond Silvers Road. The southern boundary is the neighborhood of the Enchanted Oaks West. Arrowwood Hills incorporates Timber Lane, Arrowwood Lane, Chestnut Street, and Silvers Road. The area is residential.
Directly to the south of the neighborhood is the Lake Wheeler Park. The lake is 660 acres and is a popular place for fishing, canoeing, kayaking, rowing, and sailing. The lake was created in 1956 and once served as one of Raleigh’s auxiliary water supply lakes. The 150-acre park offers picnic areas, grills, playgrounds, six covered shelters, a sand volleyball court, boat rentals, and concessions. There is also the Waterfront Program Center facility that offers a variety of educational programs and events annually. North east of the Arrowwood Hills neighborhood is the Yates Mill Pond and the historic Yates County Park. Fishing is allowed from the pond boardwalks and the county park offers hiking, picnicking, and guided tours of the mill. The Yates Mill was a water-powered mill for 200 years and is the only one in Wake County that is still in working condition. Its main purpose was grinding corn and wheat into meal and flour.
Schools in the area include Wake Christian Academy, Yates Mill Elementary School, Smith Elementary, Timber Drive Elementary, Aversboro Elementary School, Vandora Springs Elementary School, North Garner Middle School, and Garner High School.
