Nearby Mountain Island Lake is great for boating and fishing, and the Latta Plantation Nature Preserve, a 1,351-acre preserve with 16 miles of hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding trails, is located seven miles from Mount Holly. The Latta Plantation is a former cotton plantation, dating to around 1800. Today it is a living history farm that offers guided tours of the plantation home.
