Morganton is the county seat of Burke County, a gorgeous area located in western North Carolina. Mountain peaks, rivers, and canyons make this an ideal place to enjoy the outdoors. Morganton apartment renters can enjoy mountain biking, hiking, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, camping, and more.

Nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Morganton complements the surrounding beauty with a charming downtown, great parks, trails, festivals, wineries, and more. Catawba Meadows Park is located along the Catawba River and offers a 2.5 mile greenway, an 18-hole disc golf course, picnic areas, ball fields, and sand volleyball courts.

With gorgeous views and great weather, Morganton residents take full advantage of the city’s pedestrian-friendly downtown area and the biker-friendly bicycle lanes. Downtown Morganton features a summer concert series, two Farmers Markets, festivals, and art shows. Downtown also features great shops, restaurants, coffee shops, theaters, pubs, a wine and tapas bar, and a brewery.

Morganton was founded in 1777 and contains many historic sites. The Spanish built Fort San Juan in the area in 1567, but the area was home to a Mississippian culture dating back to AD 1000. This site, called Joara, is an important archaeological location not far from Morganton. The Overmountain Victory Trail takes visitors on the same route as Revolutionary War soldiers, while Western Piedmont Community College, located in Morganton, is home to the Senator Sam J. Ervin, Jr., Library and Museum. The musem includes political cartons, books, photos, and other memorabilia from the Watergate era.
