Edney Ridge Road and West Ridge Road form Westwood’s other boundaries. The neighborhood is in Guilford County.
Most of Westwood was built in the 1950s and 1960s. The neighborhood is characterized by neat, well-maintained single family homes with mature landscaping and large trees. Some of the streets in the neighborhood have sidewalks and bike lanes, but not all.
Landmarks in the area are the Caldwell Shopping Center on Battleground Avenue, Forest Lawn Cemetery and the Greensboro Natural Science Center. The schools that serve the area are General Green Elementary and Kiser Middle School, which are both on Benjamin Parkway and Grimsley High, on Westover Terrace.
There are several recreation areas in the Westwood area. Greensboro Country Park features two fishing lakes with paddle boats, a bark park, a playground and nature trails for hiking and biking. The park also hosts many festivals, runs and other special events.
Guilford Courthouse National Military Park is a unique facility that offers tours of its Revolutionary War battlefield. After watching a history video at the ranger station, visitors can tour the battlefield on foot or by car or bike. Periodically, Revolutionary War reenactments are also held. The National Military Park is popular for runners, hikers and cyclists. It is also a favorite dog walking area.
A favorite neighborhood restaurant is the Melting Pot Restaurant, which features steaks and seafood. This unique restaurant is best known for its fondues which are cooked at the table by the guests for a leisurely meal.
