Lawndale Homes Neighborhood

Lawndale Homes is a middle-class neighborhood in the 27408 zip code area of Greensboro. The neighborhood is bordered to the north by Pisgah Church Road, to the south by Kery Drive, to the east by Karlindale Drive, and to the west by Martinsville Road. Highways 29 and 220 are close to Lawndale Homes. The average house value is $119,300.

The neighborhood is close to historic downtown Greensboro. The nearby Guilford Courthouse National Military Park features exhibits, displays and monuments. The park is the historic site of the Revolutionary War’s Southern Campaign in 1781. It was a victory for the British, although Lord Charles Cornwallis was soon to abandon the Carolinas in search of victory in Virginia. Months later, Cornwallis surrendered to American and French forces led by General George Washington. William Hooper and John Penn, two North Carolina signers of the Declaration of Independence, are buried here. Visitors can explore the visitor center and tour the battlefield.

The nearby Jimmie I. Barber Park has a walking trail, picnic shelters and playgrounds. Barber Park has an 18-hole disc golf course available to the public.

Barber Park is also the home to the Penn-Wright Baseball Stadium and the Simkins Indoor Sports Pavilion. The baseball stadium is the home field of the Eastern Baseball League, and includes a press box, concessions and stadium seating. The pavilion has eight tennis courts and four combination basketball and volleyball courts for year-round play.

The Triad Stage is a professional, not-for-profit theater company located in the 5-story, historic Pyre Theater. The Triad Stage has been called “one of the most promising” new theatre companies by the American Theatre Wing, founders of the Tony Awards. They recently received a 2010 National Theatre Company Grant.
