The South Corban neighborhood of Concord, North Carolina is located directly south of Cabarrus Avenue West and bordered by Corban Avenue Southwest and Chestnut Drive Southwest. It is partially bordered to the north by Barber-Scotia College. The neighborhood is middle-class and mostly residential. South Corban Avenue attracts families, and the average age of a resident is 26.
The Rider Transit System and the Charlotte Douglas Airport serve the community, and it is close to highways 3, 25, 73, 85, and 485. South Corban Avenue is also close to the charming, small town atmosphere of Downtown Concord. Residents and tourists enjoy the combination of downtown’s restaurants, museums, theatres and shops. Visitors are encouraged to take the Concord Historic Walking Tour, which showcases downtown historic properties showing Greek Revival, Italianate and Second Empire architectural styles.
The Memorial Garden is the original graveyard of the First Presbyterian Church of Concord. The three acres contain the graves of Concord’s settlers, but the garden is a park setting with local flowers, shrubs and trees. The landscaping also includes rare and unusual plants.
The Cabarrus County Veteran’s Museum is located in the Concord Historic Courthouse. The museum honors the county’s servicemen and women from World War I to the present. The courthouse also contains the Davis Theatre, which shows serious professional stage plays and award-winning musicals. The Galleries, art collections from the Carrubus County Art Council, are permanently displayed in the Concord Historic Courthouse.
The South Corban neighborhood is close to the Concord Museum, which contains artifacts relating to historic Concord. The museum is located in the historic Belk Building.
