Though Endicott is a small city located in upstate New York, there is nothing small about this city’s history. Defined by the successful corporations that have developed here, Endicott is named after its first success – Henry B. Endicott, one of the founders of the Endicott Johnson Corporation. A shoe manufacturing company, Endicott Johnson Corporation attracted waves of immigrants during the early 20th century, which led to the town’s growth and development.
Another successful business founded in Endicott is International Business Machines Corporation (IBM). The original site of IBM’s manufacturing, research, and development, Endicott saw the corporation experience tremendous growth, ultimately becoming a global corporation in the second half of the 20th century. IBM still employs 600-800 at its sites in Endicott, though these are only dedicated to research and development today.
One of the “Triple Cities” of the Binghamton metropolitan area, Endicott has several area attractions that make it a desirable location for apartment renting. Community theatre productions are available at Endicott Performing Arts Center and the Cider Mill Playhouse. The area includes the En-Joie Golf Course and five parks, which offer athletic fields, an ice skating arena, pavilions, and swimming pools.
