Cherry Hill

Cherry Hill, NJ Apartments for Rent

Cherry Blossoms line the street of Chapel Avenue for two miles with lush, pink buds. There is no sight more beautiful in the township of Cherry Hill.  Less than 25 square miles of land, this is an edge city of Philadelphia with a population of more than 71,000.

Cherry Hill was originally settled by the Lenni-Lenape Native Americans. They lived peacefully with the first settlers from England- Quakers. The first settlement was a small cluster of homes named Colestown, which is now within the Colestown Cemetery. The original Delaware Township was incorporated in 1844. At its territorial peak, the Delaware Township was made up of modern-day North Camden, present-day Cherry Hill, Merchantville, and Pennsauken. Portions of the township were also taken to form Stockton Township and Merchantville. After World War II, the population rose quickly and continued until the 1980s.

Cherry Hill was a 19th century farm on Route 38 which later became the Cherry Hill Inn, an RCA office campus, and today’s Cherry Hill Towers and Cherry Hill Estates housing developments. Several properties were branded with the name Cherry Hill to increase its popularity. Establishments such as the Cherry Hill Inn, Cherry Hill Lodge hotels, Cherry Hill Apartments, Cherry Hill Estate, and the Cherry Hill Shopping Center all bore the name pretty soon. With the desire to create a new postal office, a name was needed as Delaware Township was already taken. The name Cherry Hill was chosen by the township’s citizens and 1961 marked the officially renaming.
