Columbia, Missouri located in Boone County is home to more than 100,000 residents. It originally was named Smithton after the Smithton Land Company; however, the name changed to Columbia in 1821. Today the mid-sized neighborhood of Smithton Ridge thrives on the southwest side of the city.

Smithton Ridge is just north of West Broadway about a mile west of North Stadium Boulevard. It is adjacent to the Park DeVille subdivision. An upscale neighborhood, Smithton Ridge spans several blocks and includes a new condominium development at West Worley Street and Strawn Road.

Columbia is a haven for outdoor recreation offering four public golf courses, thirty-four miles of nature trails, and forty-five public parks. Neighborhoods like Smithton Ridge are minutes from recreation including tennis, swimming, and the free skate park at Cosmo Park.

Although area residents may enjoy a walk or jog through the winding, shady lanes of Smithton Ridge, the subdivision is less than ten minutes north of the Hinkson Woods Conservation Area and the Twin Lakes Recreation Area. Dogs are welcomed to join their owners for a romp in this expansive city park. It is home to one of Columbia’s five off-leash dog parks, with rolling greens and plenty of room to run and play.

The Twin Lakes Recreation Area sprawls over 64 acres and includes a lake for non-motorized boating, fishing, and swimming. Kids can run, climb, and play amid the large playground structure before taking a break in the shade in one of the picnic shelters. At the Hinkson Conservation Area, hikers can access the MKT Trail at Forum Boulevard. The trail winds through the city, covering about eight miles.

With easy access to major roadways, Smithton Ridge is less than two miles from Missouri’s largest enclosed regional mall, the Columbia Mall. The city’s Farmers Market is also nearby on Clinkscales and Ash Streets.
