Two of the top spots are Flat Branch Pub & Brewing and The Blue Note. The first was named one of the best bars in America by Esquire magazine. This brewery has two silver medals from the Great American Beer Fest. The Blue Note is located in a restored vaudeville theater and features great blues, rock, and folk music.

Recreational opportunities are all around, as Columbia takes great pride in its parks. The MKT Trail is a nine-mile segment that begins near the Katy Station Depot. This segment links to the state’s famed Katy trail, the longest rail-to-trail system in the country.

Just south of the neighborhood is the Water Memorial Wildlife Area. With 75-foot limestone bluffs, grasslands, and some forested areas, it is a great place for a quick escape.

Many of the historic sites are associated with the city’s colleges. Columbia College was founded in 1835. The University of Missouri is the first state university west of the Mississippi and the site of the world’s first journalism school. Thomas Jefferson’s original tombstone is on the University of Missouri campus.
