Primarily located north of interstate 70, between Rangeline Street and highway 63 is Columbia’s Second Ward. Outdoor adventure can be had in the Second Ward’s Albert Oakland Park and Shady Lake. Several shopping centers are positioned on the east side of the community.

Albert Oakland Park’s beautiful 81.5 acres are located on Oakland Gravel Road. An orange tube slide dips into the clear water of the park’s Albert Oakland Family Aquatic Center. Picnic shelters, baseball and soccer fields, basketball and tennis courts, disc golf courses, and a fitness circuit are a few of the attractions the park offers. Shady Lake is a fisherman’s delight with just under two miles from Columbia.

Shopping is a breeze in the Second Ward, which is home to two shopping centers. To the southeast on the intersection of interstate 70 and Missouri B, is the Whitegate Shopping Center. If shopping arouses the appetite, North County Shopping Center can put it to bed with its many restaurants including Chinese, Italian, and a grocery store. Those still in need of some excess shopping or entertainment do not have to travel far to reach Columbia’s downtown district.

Columbia’s downtown district is only on the other side of interstate 70. Second Ward residents are never too far from Columbia’s excellent fun, food, shopping, and entertainment. Find the perfect item at one of Columbia’s many shops, or have a laugh at one of the several comedy clubs. Try some of Missouri’s famous BBQ, or catch a flick at one of city’s theaters, which include several independent movie houses.

Nature is just part of the Second Ward’s backyard with the Albert Oakland Park and Shady Lake. For shopping outside the city or enjoying the downtown area, the Second Ward is a dynamic and exciting place to live.
