Hominy Branch Apartments for Rent(hide neighborhood information)
The Hominy Branch neighborhood is in Columbia. It takes its name from a stream by the same name that’s east of the city. The stream also lends its name to a new bike/walk trail meant to connect the northeastern regions of Columbia to the center of the city. The Hominy Branch trail, which is still under construction in 2011, will take neighborhood residents downtown and will connect with other trails in Columbia’s extensive network.
This Missouri neighborhood is located slightly east of Highway 63 and north of Interstate 70. It is bounded on the south by Clark Lane, on the west by North Ballenger Lane, on the north by Rice Road, and on the east by Lafayette. The zip code for Hominy Branch is 65202.
This mixed residential development is made up of single-family homes, apartment buildings, and duplexes. It clusters around a small lake that serves as the focal point of the neighborhood. Small stands of trees left over from the original oak and hickory forest remain near the lake and surrounding the subdivision.
Hominy Branch creates a general impression of suburban order. Many of the streets of the neighborhood are lined with neatly clipped lawns, each with a well-pruned yard tree. The apartment buildings are also well groomed and nicely situated.
Hominy Branch is close to the cultural attractions of Columbia but also near Finger Lakes State Park, about 10 miles north on Highway 63. This park, the reclaimed site of a strip coal mine, is dedicated to off-road ATVs and motorcycles. Fishing and boating are other popular activities at the park, and the public campground is fully equipped. Rocky Fork Lakes Conservation Area is in the same area and offers fishing, camping, and hunting.
