The Grasslands is a residential neighborhood surrounded on three sides by the sprawling University of Missouri campus. It includes a number of upscale homes in a setting of wooded, rolling hills, but also holds apartment buildings intended mostly for students, as well as fraternity and sorority houses.

Both sides of East Clarkson and Burnam Road are within the Grasslands neighborhood on its north side. On the east side, the neighborhood extends to Curtis Avenue and South Providence Road. On the south side, the neighborhood boundary is East Stadium Boulevard. On the west, the Grasslands extends to the MKT Nature and Fitness Trail. The zip code for Grasslands is 65203.

Apartments in the Grasslands are very well located. Next to the university campus, they are also close to university-sponsored student housing and to Greek Town, the fraternity and sorority district. At the same time, most of the Grasslands neighborhood has a nearly rural feel, with quiet streets and no commercial development.

For a relaxing break, the MKT Trail can be accessed from Stadium Boulevard or Providence Road. Formerly the roadbed of the MKT railroad, this shady trail now offers biking, hiking, or jogging in summer and cross-country skiing in winter. It links to a network of well-maintained city and county trails, and ultimately to the 200-mile Katy Trail that connects St. Charles in east Missouri with Sedalia in the west.

Many recreational and cultural opportunities are also available on the University of Missouri campus, including concerts, films, and clubs. Sporting events, including football, take place at the stadiums less than a half mile south of Grasslands.
