El Chaparral is a small, primarily residential community in the 65201 zip code of Columbia. It encompasses El Chaparral Avenue South, South Victoria Avenue, Mesa Court, South Roseta Avenue, South Pecos Avenue, and a few other small streets.
The 2,273-acre Rock Bridge Memorial State Park is only two miles to its northwest. The park has two caves, a half-mile Devil’s Icebox Boardwalk, walking trails, mountain biking trails, a playground, and a picnic shelter.
El Chaparral a very family-friendly neighborhood, with several renowned public and private schools within its borders or within walking distance. Cedar Ridge Elementary School, noted for its exemplary teaching staff, is within the community. Luke’s Treehouse Preschool is also in the neighborhood. The Academy of Fine Arts is a mile to its northwest, while Little Miracles Preschool is a half-mile to its south. The Univrsity of Missouri Museum of Art & Archaeology is only three miles west of El Chaparral, and the Boone County Historical Society Museum is two miles to its southwest. The George Caleb Bingham Art Gallery is just over two and a half miles to its west.
Several wealthier residents belong to the Columbia Country Club, which is only two miles northwest of the neighborhood. In addition to sprawling, well-manicured golf courses, it offers a ballroom, luxury clubhouse, on-site restaurant, tennis courts, and an aquatic center.
