East Campus Apartments for Rent

The East Campus neighborhood got its name because it is immediately east of the University of Missouri. Though the city of Columbia annexed the area before the Civil War, the neighborhood’s development did not really begin until 1900, when the university began to expand. The East Campus holds single-family homes, duplexes, and apartments built as early as the turn of the century, but it also holds many modern apartments and condominiums that meet the same student housing needs.

The zip code for the East Campus area is 65201. Broadway bounds the district on the north side. On the west, the boundary is College Avenue. On the south, Rollins Street is the boundary, and on the east side, the dividing line for the neighborhood is Old Highway 63. Both Stephens College and the University of Missouri add character to the neighborhood, but are not actually considered part of it.

Close to downtown conveniences as well as the colleges, the East Campus is a good neighborhood for people who like to walk. The narrow, shady streets, historic brick sidewalks, and brick streets on some blocks enhance the picturesque neighborhood.

For relaxation, Stephens Lake Park is two blocks away to the northeast. This city park is a good place for exercise or a picnic, and the lake is open for swimming in summer. The colleges, including Columbia College about five blocks to the north, are each great venues for entertainment of all kinds. Many restaurants and other nightlife venues cluster on the streets of the East Campus too, as well as in the nearby Downtown and North Central Columbia neighborhoods.
