Stephens Park is 116 acres and its roots date back to the 1800s. The park has ten shelters, an amphitheater, three playgrounds, more than two miles of trails, two waterfalls, and a swimming beach on Stephens Lake. Waters Memorial Wildlife Area covers 117 acres, and was purchased in 1853 by Daniel Dorsey, an associate professor of chemistry at the University of Missouri.

The University of Missouri and its robust student population of more than 30,000 sit just to the west. Theatrical performances and concerts are frequently performed at the University. Sports fans will enjoy watching some of the universities more than 15 division one athletic teams, including nationally ranked football and basketball teams.

Two country clubs are located within five miles to the north and west of Eagle Park. Just north of east Broadway Columbia Country Club boasts the title of the city’s original country club, and an 18-hole championship golf course. To the west on East Stadium Boulevard is A. L. Gustin Jr. Golf Course, which features 18 holes of golf, a putting green, and driving range. This course is open to the public, but its main purpose is to serve the University of Missouri.
